For nearly two decades, every Wednesday afternoon at the road in front of our clubhouse, a quiet tradition took place — the gathering of athletes, the click of stopwatches, and the ever-present kindness of Willie and Theresa Jordaan, affectionately known to us all as Oupa and Ouma.
Week after week, they faithfully set up a table and chairs for our timekeepers, ensuring that time trials ran smoothly. But their contribution went far beyond that. With warm smiles and occasional chats, they became part of the very heartbeat of our club — familiar faces who represented dedication, support, and genuine care.
As time moved on, so did life, and now Oupa and Ouma are preparing for a new chapter as they relocate to a retirement village. They have let us know, with much grace, that they can no longer provide the service they so generously offered us all these years.
This past Wednesday, in true club spirit, we gathered to say our thank you. Surrounded by our runners and friends, we presented them with a gift voucher — a small token of our immense gratitude. It was a moment filled with emotion, reflection, and appreciation.
“Oupa and Ouma, your presence will be dearly missed at our time trials. You’ve been more than volunteers — you’ve been part of our running family. We salute your unwavering support and hold dear the memories shared along the roadside.
As we continue our weekly runs, your legacy of quiet service and heartfelt connection will remain with us. Aging is indeed a shared journey, but so is love — and we have felt yours every step of the way.
Thank you, Oupa and Ouma. You will always have a place in our hearts.
With love,
Your Running Club Family”
