Striders Shine at the Two Oceans Marathon in Cape Town

This past weekend was one to remember for the Sedgefield Striders! While our dedicated Saturday runners took to the forests for a challenging and scenic long run, our walkers turned their usual stroll into an unexpected adventure — proving once again that every Striders outing holds the potential for a story.
At the same time, some of our brave athletes were representing us in Cape Town at the iconic Two Oceans Marathon, tackling both the Ultra and Half Marathon events. Although only a few Striders made the trip — the cost of travel and accommodation making participation a considerable commitment — their efforts were nothing short of inspiring. These athletes have poured countless hours into training, bolstered all along by the unwavering encouragement from fellow club members.
In true Striders spirit, support poured in from every corner of Sedgefield. Our WhatsApp groups lit up with messages of encouragement, good luck wishes, and real-time updates. Several members tracked our runners and posted their progress live, keeping the rest of us connected to the action. Every photo shared, every update posted brought waves of excitement — and pride — to those following from home.
We are incredibly proud to announce that all our athletes completed their races — “another one in the bag!” Among them were Matty and Ida, who went the extra mile, quite literally, by running for a cause close to their hearts: the CHOC Foundation – Children with Cancer. Their passion and dedication caught the eye of race organisers, earning them a spot on a live television interview — a proud moment indeed for our small but spirited club.
To each athlete who laced up and represented the Striders this weekend: congratulations! Your determination, heart, and sportsmanship make us proud to be part of this club.
Here’s to many more adventures on the road, the trail, and beyond!
